Hastert raises the white flag

Dennis Hastert agrees to take a step back from the new GOP rules in the ethics committee. They Democrats have effectively locked the committee up since then refusing to offer any votes on anything. Why? Well, it's actually a Democratic victory. GOP realized that Tom DeLay is out there, blowing in the wind, a negative charge of scandal all around him, and he's unable to clear his name if the committee is locked up. But new chairman Lugar will do all he can to clear DeLay, after the old chairman was fired by Hastert, Repbulican Joel Hefley R-Colorado, for admonishing DeLay three times last year. Democrats can savor the victory for sixteen seconds until the next round of bait and switch. Remember the new GOP is all about the agenda. Agenda at all costs, regardless of agreements, handshakes, signed contracts or promises.

You know, I almost hope that DeLay sticks around. The longer the focus is on him, the more crap that the GOP has to spew in order to keep him around, the higher the chance that Americans will see that the Friendly Angel that they have chosen to lead them is actually Gorgan.

Sorry for the STOS reference, but it seemed relevant.

This is very true about keeping DeLay around, many want him to be the Newt Gingrich of '96. Arrogant, abusing power, and trying to hijack the government. The American people are sometimes sluggish to wake up and take notice of things not directly related to their daily lives, the 9-5 grind and getting to Friday, but when they do get something in their face, and they make their minds up about it - it stays made up. DeLay could really help the Democrats and kill GOP momentum. The guy is just bad news.

I think the 2008 GOP Pres Primaries are going to be the undoing of the GOP. In 2000 it had potential to be a real fight until they gutted mccain in SC. Frist, J.Bush, Gingrich, McCain Giuliani you might even see Roy Moore show his repugnant face. With any luck the difering winger faction will back diferent guys. I can see the law and order conservatives backing Rudy, but I can't see the fundies backing him. They'll go Frist or Moore if he has a shot. The Neocons will back Gingrich. I wonder which way the dark lord rove will go if Jeb isn't in....

I really don't know if the country can last til 08. With the ever-rising deficit, ever-degrading ecosystem, it's going to be hard to hold on til then.
